My Mom rocks. Shoreby Club Exhibit

What ever would I do without my dear Mom??!! Today we hung my show at the Shoreby Club second floor gallery. She cut wire hangers, helped level and present all the work ...that included climbing and moving a heavy ladder no less than a dozen times. I had thought it would take about 45 minutes, oh how wrong I was. We never stopped moving for over two hours... 21 of my paintings are now on exhibit there. Thanks again Mom, you're a lifesaver.
The show runs from SEPT 1 - OCT 26. Access to see it is by appt. with the club or through moi. I'm happy to give personal tours. If you are in the Bratenahl, Cleveland Northern Ohio area and want to have a little look-see, please contact me!

Pear Boat fruit oil painting still life

Pear Boat Oil on wood 8" x 10" N/A
I found some great not-so-fussy battenburg lace that you will probably see more of in the next few months. I tried it with several different flower arrangements, but the pretty pears and grapes won me over this time.

Ohemgeeeee! Someone copied my painting May Daisies, see my original post here. They posted it on their website here. (Scroll way down.) At least they gave me credit... I am oddly flattered. nodp

Still putting things in order for my show at the Shoreby Club: labels, signage & making sure everything is ready to hang!
Painting the 12x12s really gave me a taste for painting big(ger-for me!) I wonder how this will affect my ability to post daily. ...not to mention the question: Do people buy medium size paintings online? And is painting "bigger" such a brilliant idea with the holiday season just five minutes away?

Avon Fall Festival sunflower painting graphics

Just so you know I'm not sitting around eating chocolate bonbons and watching Housewives of Orange County, here's this year's Avon Fall Festival poster design... I was happy to design the poster again which features my painting, Cadmium March. Festival organizers have drummed up a lot of interest this year as evidenced by the number of sponsors, should be a fun event! To see more of my sunflower paintings, click here.

This is the last of the (re-painted) favorites. The first time I painted this one was here. Both versions have their charm. This one is a little more interior-colors-compatible, me thinks. It's better in life.

Flashback Friday

It was the early 1980's, rural NE Ohio. The neighbors hired me to paint some apples on the side of their fruitstand. They paid me $80 and I was happy to get the gig. That's a cornfield across the street and I am sporting some much beloved denim overalls, paintbrush in hand. Good times.

I want to paint so many things, but re-painting "oldies" is a good exercise in digging deeper instead of casting a wider net. It's great to improve upon paintings I'm already relatively confident about. Having said that: Adding old toys to the mix and painting more cats is still on my to-do list.

I'm having too much fun repainting favorite compositions. The first time I painted this one was here. I made some little fixes and kept the background a little more "back" this time.... 12" x 12" once seemed huge, but it's totally in my comfort zone now.

This week and next I will be painting some of my all time favorite compositions, only bigger and (hopefully) better! I want to offer the folks at the Shoreby Country Club a real feast for the eyes during my upcoming show there in September and October--that is assuming the paintings don't sell here first.

Just a quick note today: Yes I'm back. I spent last week doing busy work around the house and getting over the trauma of losing so many paintings in the storm. Among my busy work, a shelf was designated for still life props. Of course once that was done I had to go out and get more props including the little white porcelain kitty shaped creamer above...
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of you who emailed me directly and commented on the blog post before this one. Having the input of so many talented and vibrant artists and collectors is a treasured blessing to me. Not sure how "Mother Nature's Smack Down" will shape my future. I'm still sitting on the fence with regards to future outdoor shows. One thing for sure: My desire to paint is still strong and I count that as a blessing too.
