A Passerby painting of a cat and a butterfly

A Passerby  Oil on wood, 8" x 6," SOLD
It's easier (for me) to achieve "color harmony" with colors like pinks and purples, not so much with earth tones. I used raw umber here (instead of my go-to burnt) and tried to kinda ease up on the darkest darks from the beginning and I'm happy with it.  I'm not sure either of those tactics helped with the color harmony but I will keep experimenting. :)
This painting is another in my ongoing series "Eye on Butterfly," click here to see more.

  1. Gorgeous. Amazing how you opened the sky here. Oh course kitty and butterfly are adorable.

  2. And you nailed it, but especially the expression of the cat. He has combined looks of what and who are you in my space, and how do you do that, wish I could fly.
