Art Deco Still Life

Art Deco Still Life  Oil on wood  16" x 16" SOLD
After my last painting, I felt ready to try something a little brighter.  I'm especially happy with the art deco teapot and I look forward to painting more of my as-of-yet unpainted props.

Daisyworks floral still life painting

Daisyworks  Oil on wood  16" x 16"  NFS
This painting is a bit bigger, it's 16" x 16."  It has all the comfort zone subjects I love to paint, white flowers, fruit and pattern.  Additionally, I made an effort to not over-blend, very happy with the results.

Sparrow Meets Pattern 12" x 12" original painting

Sparrow Meets Pattern  Oil on wood  12" x 12"  SOLD
Dappled light on a busy pattern was a challenge here!  But I'm satisfied with the results.

Flower Fields pair of decorative paintings

Flower Fields I  Oil on paper  12" x 12"  NFS
Flower Fields II  Oil on paper 12" x 12"  NFS
I've been trying to shake off what feels like a bit of a "slump."  Wanting to paint these got me back in the studio--Although, they turned into paint sketches once I got going....  Rather than fully developed paintings.  More soon hopefully.

My Print Shop

My first print shop sale went to England! Writer, artist and all around swell guy, Indigo Roth purchased a 12" x 12" print of "Daffodils on Pattern."
When Indigo made the purchase, he asked for advice on framing.  I suggested a white mat with a light colored frame.  It took a while to get from Cleveland to Cambridge (customs!) He was kind enough to send a picture of it in the frame.
Looks great!  Thank Indigo.  Visit my online shop here.

Blue Bird on Sunflowers  Oil on wood  12" x 12" NFS
The former version of this painting had a gray bird, but blue looks better!

Lemon Daisies

Lemon Daisies  Oil on wood  10" x 10"  NFS
Yes, we're experiencing difficulty getting "in the groove" this week.  Despite being relatively happy with "Lemon Daisies" I gotta say it wasn't a walk in the park.  I tried painting the vase first thinking I'd paint everything else around it piecemeal, big fail!  I ended up repainting parts to adjust values--but eventually had to paint the whole thing over again anyway.

Red Lilies floral still life with lemons

Red Lilies  Oil on wood  10" x 10"  NFS
Yesterday I wiped everything I tried painting, it was dreadful--  so dreadful in fact, I felt entitled to wallow in self pity today.  But I resisted the urge.  These red lilies were my attempt to get back in the groove.

Cat Pitcher with Flowers  Oil on wood  6" x 6"  NFS
It's good to return to a familiar subject before I paint more horses.

Farm Horse oil painting by Diane Hoeptner

Farm Horse  Oil on wood  8" x 10"  NFS
I am almost delusional enough to believe that this morning's Robert Genn letter was written just for me.  LOL.  I fear I may have become what he called "beguiled by (my) own previously proven capabilities"--by including patterns in recent horse paintings.  Patterns worked really well with my cat paintings...  but cats live inside so they weren't much of a stretch...  I still like patterns, but today I heeded Robert's words and put this horse "in context."

Ed painting of a horse

Ed  Oil on wood  10" x 8"  NFS
We drove to Virginia over the weekend to attend the Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community's 11th annual Art Exhibit and awards ceremony.  I had 6" x 6" cat painting accepted into this year's show.  No award(s) for me, maybe next year.
On a side note:  My new print shop is now open.  It will offer a changing selection of my best paintings with prices starting at $25.  Have a look for yourself here.
