Brother's Keeper, Love and Hisses

Brother's Keeper  Oil on panel, 8" x 8,"  SOLD
If you notice anything "extra" in today's painting and maybe several to follow, it's thanks to Robyn at Love and Hisses.  Robyn fosters kittens and cats from her beautiful home in Huntsville, AL.  She takes incredible photographs of them, romping, resting and doin' what they do in a relaxed environment. She has honored me with permission to use her photos as painting reference. Thank you, Robyn!! Find more of Robyn's kitty goodness on Facebook and Instagram
"Brother's Keeper" -- I am trying to avoid over blending! It's a hard habit to break. But I made some progress in that regard on this painting.

The Scoop, also Before and Afters of my Kitchen Overhaul

The Scoop  Oil on panel, 8" x 8,"  SOLD
For those of you who took an interest-- here's the before and afters of my kitchen overhaul
Sink Wall Before and After, click to enlarge!
The old counter tops had a sort of chrome liner, they were a beast to rip out. (So says, the Home Depot guy.) But the cabinets below held up pretty good! They were able to fit the back splash part around existing electric outlets.

I had considered wallpaper for this area... But ended up using luan across the bottom and beadboard on top.
Since I started blogging about my kitchen overhaul, we have gone through three water dispensers!  The first two broke and had to be returned or replaced.  The water to the house is well water, so we don't drink it. (and my hair is turning (more?!) orange from showering in it?! but I digress) The current dispenser is a Whirlpool and so far, so good!

I'm especially thrilled with this part of the kitchen. The horizontal
Our future counter
cabinets were removed and replaced with a tall cabinet next to the fridge...  The cabinet was then sided and topped with luan to make it look built in.
I wanted something organic to balance the geometry of the cabinets and tiles.  We are fortunate to live near 3 Barn Doors, a company that does custom live edge wood...  We went to their showroom and picked out a piece of kiln dried maple- which they cut, sanded and stained to match. The space feels SO much more open now! Sharing this project with you, dear reader made it a lot more fun and I think it spurred me on to get it done! Thanks for your interest and encouragement along the way.   Happy Halloween, stay safe!

Rhonda and a couple blathering take-homes

Rhonda,  Oil on panel, 8" x 8," SOLD
"Rhonda" kitty was painted with only a minimum of "noodling." (Noodling in this instance means blending.) I wish every painting would happen like that.  A few take homes I want to take home, err: Mix enough paint to go around, try to make each stroke count. That's it, seems like no brainers...  But they are not.

Roaring Kitten and my nephews

Roaring Kitten, Oil on panel, 8" x 8," SOLD

Since we moved, we live closer to my sister's family and I get to see my nephews more often.  (a joy) Last weekend they came to stay overnight!

We had a bit of fun painting a floral still life...(see their paintings above.)   ...and more fun with a game assigning each other drawings.  My assignments included "sword wielding robot" and "floating island of cats."  Painting from imagination is not my forte but dangit it if those two can't draw ANYthing you throw at 'em.

We also took a quick spin around Farmpark which (be still my heart) had baby animals of all kinds, sheep, goats, calves and piglets!!  If you are a local, it's a worthwhile look-see!
Today's painting is better in life...  It is based on a photo from the Love and Hisses archives. (Thanks, Robyn!)

Gustav's Cat II

Gustav's Cat II  Oil on wood, 8" x 8,"  NFS
These last two (this one and yesterday's paintings) are an attempt at a series.  I was thinking kitten + modern (pattern) + home decor friendly colors.... and I had three planned. The first two don't really jive together.  May come back around to these again later! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

This kitten looks to have some Maine Coon in her, a sweetie from the shelter.  I started wondering how many kitten paintings have I actually painted? Quite a few apparently.  Click here to see more kittens!
