A Couple Show Announcements

"Full Stretch"                                                                    "Lemur"
A couple show announcements:  "Full Stretch" has been accepted into the Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community's 10th Annual Juried Art Exhibition.  I sang the praises of this show last year.  It is very well run and they attract a great selection of work from all over the country. The exhibit runs from May 26th through June 30th.  If you are near Harrisonburg, Virginia--do see it!
"Lemur" will be a creature featured in the "Creatures Featured" exhibit at the Valley Art Center in Chagrin Falls, OH.  I nearly missed this one--  I had been waiting for frames to arrive as I wanted to frame it for the show... The last day for drop offs arrived, Lemur was framed and ready.  But oh the snow, yes it was snowing.  Again.  Long story short, I nearly chickened out because driving in snow makes me a nervous wreck.  But I made it there and back alive. If you are local to Ohio, be sure to see this exhibit which runs from April 6th to May 16th.

Jessie cute dog painting pet portrait

Jessie  Oil on wood  6" x 6"  SOLD
Jessie likes to ride his human's tractor.  His little splayed feet kill me with cuteness.
I've been working on a an all consuming side project which I will announce next week.  Also next week, some time in the studio painting!  Looking forward to that!

Sugar cat portrait painting commission custom art

Sugar  Oil on wood  14" x 11"  SOLD
Beautiful quilt.
Completed custom art:   Sugar the cat.  At first the idea was to have a generic quilt in the background.  And doncha know I buzzed over to Amazon and bought a fabulous book of quilt patterns.  (Yes, I am addicted to books of patterns, the more the better.)  But then my buyers had a brilliant idea:  Why not use a treasured family heirloom as background?  Gotta love it.  They submitted photos of the woman's mother's handmade quilt.  A few versions were tried out in photoshop--  The painting will hang on a green wall and this version not only accentuates Sugar's coloring & full moon round face, it will be great on that wall. Thanks E & A!!

Posting an accurate photo is important.

Oy, the one on the right is accurate.

Not that much of a difference here, but still...
Every once in a while I post a bad photo of painting.  It might be too dark, too light or blurry...or maybe I make a minor color tweak in photoshop and end up changing more than I realize.   When I re-photographed the White Lilies painting above, I was shocked to discover just HOW bad the first photo was. Here is a pair of re-photographed paintings.  The ones on the left are what I posted (oh the horror) and the ones on the right are what the paintings actually look like.  These bigger (16" x 16") paintings don't fit in my photo tent, it's probably time for a bigger tent.

Apple Blossom Branches an 8x10 painting

Apple Blossom Branches  Oil on wood  10" x 8"  NFS
Suggesting voluminous details without over-working is something I want to do better.  The apple blossom branches presented an opportunity to try.
