The shapes in this arrangement make nice contrasts: spiky mum petals vs. round flat leaves. I am tempted to try this one again (bigger) with a pattern in the background. Though it would also be nice to see more of the warm sienna tone/board peeking through in the background. Did you know you can search my paintings by flower in the right sidebar? Here's a link to previous mum paintings.
Lovely Diane! Although I really enjoy your patterned backgrounds, I think the sedate background in this one really showcases the beauty of the arrangement and composition and allows the central image to really pop! This is a delightful piece!
What I like particularly about this one is both flowers and vase have the same level sharpness. Sometimes it seems to me the flowers are more impressionistic than the vase or jar. I agree with Cynthia, I like the plain background. The mums do not have to fight. You still have a background pattern by including the greens. I like the sunlight too! Lovely indeed!
