Untitled Cat Painting and summer observations

Pictured at left, my latest 10" x 8" cat painting.  It is possibly the worst photo ever.   I'll re-shoot it later and add a Buy Now button at that time.  
Summer has found me a little frazzled.  Not really frazzled and unhappy --just frazzled and doing more multi-taking than usual.  My main computer has been failing in annoying and random intervals--so, backing up and deleting excessive image files has occupied much time.  Oh, and my husband and I are going on a little vacation this year.  It will include boarding an airplane and staying in hotels!!  While that is both fun and exciting, it also requires careful planning. Art deadlines too, more on those as they pan out.  Expect to see more cats and florals on pattern and maybe a few more dogs too.  Thank you for reading and for commenting, have a great weekend.

I usually save painting cat whiskers for last.  This time around I forgot them altogether.  I didn't realize it until I was reviewing photographs of the painting.  If they seem a little sharp, it's because they were brushed onto nearly dry paint.

Despite lacking the ability to outright beg, Layla does a fairly good job communicating her needs.

Coco, the boy cat:  My husband says indoor cats remain like children forever because they never have to fend for themselves in the wild.  It's true with this one, he's never lost his inquisitive nature and will come running like a little puppy when called.

After the pink swirlies, I wanted to try something a little darker.  I tried out "zinc white" aka mixing white here.  It is more transparent than Titanium white.  It brightens without turning everything to pastel, I like it very much and will be adding it to my palette on a regular basis.

As I up the size and complexity of my paintings,  previously employed techniques which I thought I had mastered seem like new and perplexing challenges.   I had more than a few "what the sam H am I doing?!" moments while painting Pink Swirl Bouquet.
