Pear Still Life with grapes and tapestry pattern

Pear Still Life  Oil on cradled wood  8" x 8"
Painting a background that enhances and supports your focal point can be challenging.  I've painted these pears before, here.  This time around I really wanted to push the background back.

  1. Oooh . . . love this one! This background works REALLY well. It's so fun waiting to see what you paint next.

  2. Wow, those colors are gorgeous. Nice brushwork, too. Very solid.

  3. Looks like when you push stuff further into the background, you mute the background a bit and create harder lines around your subjects in the foreground. Yes? I should have Nate take a look at these two.

    Nice work.
