Here's a pair of paintings in progress, each featuring floating ranunculus blooms. I painted stems and a flat patterned background on one of them and was unhappy with it. Doncha know I tried similar background elements again on the second and had the same unhappy results.... (They're meant to be a set.) After wiping off both backgrounds, I decided to stop. :(
Love seeing a WIP, Diane! This makes all of us who "try" feel better--you're a master. We can all keep plodding along if you have to "wipe" a background. :) Thanks for sharing, these already look beautiful to me, and I'm sure your fresh eyes will have the background worked out in no time! xoxo-Loren
I adore these Diane! I must confess I immediately visualised a red/purple/indigo swirly wallpapery background for some reason. But I look forward to the final versions, whatever they are. Indigo
These flowers look gorgeous! Don't you have to finish their color before you can tell if the background will work or not? Don' t mind me...a watercolor person who doesn't do many flowers! ;-)
You are so bold to show paintings here for everyone to see that are not working the way you want them to. I love it!
I get your posts in my email and don't see the images right away, so when I read "floating ranunculus blooms" I envisioned them floating in blue water. I don't know if that might work for you, but it worked in my mind.
I know you'll come up with the perfect solution for these, Diane!

ReplyDeleteI love seeing the working methods of works in progress, too! It always fascinates me to see
ReplyDeleteTo see "how the magic happens" (sorry, my iPad froze up & wouldn't finish the comment!

ReplyDeleteThese are looking great Diane. Interesting regarding the stems. I like how they float on the canvas.
