We had a metallic pinwheel once.  It was propped up in the back yard to catch the breeze.  The only problem with the pinwheel was the crazy reflections it spun around the kitchen.  ...little multi colored pinpoints of light that danced and flew everywhere.  It was not unlike a disco...  I kept mistaking the reflections for a vehicle arriving.   
After listening to me bellyache about it a few times my husband finally spray painted it black.  

While a black pinwheel was less than ideal, the problem was solved.  True story.

It's good to be back in the studio!  Here's a set of new paintings on paper, (works in progress) each 21" x 7".  Starting a new painting is always exciting.  Especially in the beginning before "issues" arise.  I'm at that stage right now with these orange ranunculus blooms. 

Los Angeles vacation in November

Some of you may know I lived in L.A. for 17 years.  Since moving "back home" to Ohio I never went back, 'til now!  Here's a few pictures from the trip.

My Husband and I tend to travel on the cheap. But he wasn't as enthusiastic about this trip as me. It entailed many meet and greets for him not to mention letting me drive. When it came time to figure out where to stay --I indulged and booked a room at the Inn at Playa del Rey.

Best.Decision.Ever.We had a balcony view of the Ballona Wetlands, cranes and bushy tailed squirrels. They left homemade chocolate chip cookies in our room and provided free use of bikes. I'm pretty sure I'll never look at a Motel 6 the same again.

We went to see a taping of the Jeff Probst show.
 Jillian Michaels was the guest.  It airs Tuesday, November 20th.

We took Sunset Blvd from Hollywood all the way to the beach and then drove up the coast.  A day was spent walking Venice Beach too.

The Culver City Art Group was having a show the weekend we arrived and I had great fun making a surprise visit.  This vacation went so fast, it's hard to believe it's over already.   


What?  A traffic jam on the 405?!  Don't miss that.

Modern Cat Magazine features Diane Hoeptner

Modern Cat Magazine did a wonderful feature on my cat paintings in the premier issue!  They pictured "Fall Cat" on the Table of Contents too, see all below.  Only a small snafu, they listed my media as "colour pencil and watercolour" instead of oil, but that's just a detail.  I'm happy to have my work receive the fantastic exposure.  Thank you, Modern Cat!

I painted a tiny version of this one before, here.  This time around I made the chair blue and added a bit of pattern.

We're feeling better now.  The garage has been repaired and plans are under way to fix the blown down fence.  Best of all, I painted these tulips on pattern that I like very much...may have to do a few more. Thank you internet friends for the kind words and encouragement --it was really appreciated.
