I made a lot of noise at the beginning of this year--about how I wanted to paint BIGGER in 2011. It didn't quite happen.again. Honestly, it's been two years I've been talking about painting bigger! Anyway, one of my ideas is to combine cool patterns, flowers and cats. This painting is a good example of a try-out with just a cool pattern+cat and I'm very happy with it... not to mention highly motivated to try painting bigger again. My plan right now is to finish off the year with 6x6s. ...and try out a few bigger paintings in 2012.
Your paintings, in any size, are wonderful! I love your idea of cats combined with various backgrounds. Painting large is a lot of fun. Try it! The cats on these backgrounds would be wonderful large!!
Very nice!!! I find myself putting off painting large also. I keep telling myself I will wait until I paint a perfect small painting and then do it large. I think you have painted the perfect small painting here.
This is wonderful, Diane! Your patterns are delicious, and the colors work so well together. Very, very nice painting. I love all of your cat paintings.
boy, sometimes we think on the same wave-length....it's uncanny....That's been my big goal for this year...paint bigger- and so far ONE, just ONE whopper came out of this studio...and right now there is this Humongo canvas staring at me from my large easel across the room. Oy. From spring through fall I usually paint small to medium pieces outside. Okay, I did do one largish piece this summer(for plein air it was a whopping 24x36). But there is something wonderful about these smaller pieces that I haven't 'yet' captured in the larger paintings. Perhaps this winter? Maybe then I'll paint from some of my outdoor pieces in the studio while it's bleak & cold outside! I'm LOVING this cat series you're into now! You've got the perfect model!! (his coat is fabulous)- very cool to see him against the various patterns & colors, light & shadow....meowsmerizing!
I've really been enjoying all your cat paintings. I think this one is my favorite .... so far!

Love this beautiful Russian Blue series! The background looks so great against the solid color of the cat.
