My friend Martha has a river running through her backyard in Northern California. When I knew her (in L.A.) she published a magazine and threw fundraisers. Since she moved up North, she slowed down a bit. Now she takes the most awesome outdoor photographs, one of which was the reference for this painting! This is my first try at landscapes. I will probably do more.

Seriously, FIRST try at landscapes? Wow, it's great, you're a natural. But then again they say if you can paint well, you can paint anything well, and you've proved that here!

Ha! Joan you are way too kind. It is my first landscape in oil, that I really tried. (: I have done more than a few landscapes in watercolor/color pencil...
ReplyDeleteIn the genre of landscapes, this is a breath of fresh air! You create a landscape which is both dreamy and authentic. The perspective and clear values draw me into the scene. Yay!
ReplyDeleteWow, I left a comment 4 days ago and when I return you have posted 6 more paintings and not just simple little things. I'm so impressed with your landscape!!!! It looks as though you have been painting them for quite a while and long enough to have developed your own style. That is an accomplishment even if you had been at it for years! It's beautiful! Great job!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, Diane, this is just gorgeous. You rendered this painting the way I like to create photos...somewhat soft and dreamy. I love it.
ReplyDeleteYes please!!! More landscapes please! I love those trees in the background! Like Dar already wrote, this has such a 'dreamy' feel to it, my blood pressure drops 10 points just gazing at it. Ah....
ReplyDeleteThere you go, Di. New market for you. This is a visual "supplement" that supports healthy blood pressure. Just be sure you add the stuff about your claim not being evaluated by the FDA to treat disease, blah, blah, blah. :-)
ReplyDeleteit is dreamy !
ReplyDeleteI like the serene and dreamy feeling in this one. Great colors and good job on your first landscape!
ReplyDeleteHi Diane,
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely. I hope you do many more!
AMAZING! (Yes, I'm shouting!) You are a woman of limitless talent...
ReplyDeleteMy goodness! You'd never know it's your first. What brilliant style you bring to this genre!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, thanks all. I'm surprised by the response to this painting! I may have to try some more landscapes.
ReplyDeleteAs the originator of the photo I'm even more than usual in love with Diane's work. Her paintings live and breathe. And she does unbelievable portraits that should be shown more on this page. I'm so honored that she chose to take my work to a new level. I will be hoping that I can get her to do some more. This is an amazing place up here in the Trinity Alps in Northern California. And it is a whole new river this week since they let water out of the damn. It is much less serene and much more powerful. The torch is yours to carry Diane.
