More zinnias!  I tried to paint these a little looser and rougher--hoping to have more of the acrylic background peek through.  They look more integrated this way, I may try a few more.   Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Yes, I'm still messing with the acrylics.  The zinnias above are based on photographs my friend Maria sent me.  They grow in her garden in Culver City, CA.  I'm afraid I "blanched" them for design purposes, but next time around we'll try them in full color.  Thanks again for the pictures, Maria!

Here's the companion pce for the painting I posted yesterday.  The last time I made a concerted effort to use acrylics, I was painting poppies.  That was back in January.  Happily, those were recently published as posters.  I'm crazy about the mix of fast drying acrylics with buttery oils on top.  There's definitely more exploration to be done here!

This is a "spinoff" from a previously posted (and sold!) painting, Lily on Gold.  Yeah, that's showbiz talk.  It's kinda like an episode of Joanie Loves Chachi which was a spinoff from Happy Days--only this painting is much, much better than Joanie Loves Chachi.  It is part of a two pce series which I am still tweaking.  I'll post the companion tomorrow, be sure to visit again!
Kristen Bauer va Straten
But wait!  In other showbiz news:  Kristen Bauer van Straten who plays delightfully wicked and worldly vampire Pam on HBO's True Blood called this blog "neat" on her Facebook and Twitter pages.  (!!)  Kristen is not only an amazing actress, she is an animal rights activist and she paints!  Apparently, my sister discovered Kristen's floral paintings on Facebook and emailed her a request to have a look-see here. ...and like magic, oh, the traffic.  I do so love getting traffic on this blog.  Thank you Kristen!  ...and thank you Dear Sister, DEBBIE for putting in a good word!

The Mouse Project

3 bronze mice, 22 artists, 47 paintings: All in a book to benefit animal shelters. Bronze sculptor Steve Worthington collected paintings by a select group of painters, he then assembled them in a book, available for purchase on Lulu.com, here. -- Hopefully, the book will raise tons of $$ for our furry companions in shelters!!  I feel so fortunate to be included in this worthwhile project.  Check out the video above, a quick shot of my painting can be seen at about :37 or :38 Yep, irises and mouse, Sprightly on the look out.  Great job Steve and thanks for all your hard work!

The painting on the left is an improved version of Full Moon Trio (which I posted several days ago.)  I took out the warm umber speckled edge and pushed back certain graphic elements in the background--and added a companion piece.  I think this combination of yellow, turquoise and moss green is so fresh!
