You know your flowers well, Diane. You understand their spirit! As always, a lovely set of works.
There's the companion! I really love the color you chose for the background, it sets off the yellow so nicely. How did you choose your background color? Better question would be, what do you look for when you choose a background? :)Joan
Diane, These are just beautiful! I love the soft way you handled your edges...I don't see that often with sunflowers...I'd say these are some of my favorites from you!
*sigh* I really need to sell some paintings so I can buy my first "Diane Hoeptner"!!!
Thank you Marie! Joan, thanks for the question. Regarding backgrounds, it's something with which I still struggle! Generally, I use a color or value that will compliment my focal point. For instance if my focal point is a saturated yellow, then a creamy off yellow will make the saturated yellow seem even more so... Same for values, if the focal point is bright, a dark background serves to enhance that. Easy in theory, harder to do in life. I wipe and repaint backgrounds ALL the time! Sheila: You are such a doll and your paintings have improved so much since you started blogging!! Would LOVE for you to own one of my paintings! I'm sure we can work something out to make that happen.
Diane + Sunflowers = Match Made in Heaven!xox,Loren
