Out of the Box for Daily Painters!
Members of dailypainters receive a monthly painting challenge. This month's challenge was to paint something "out of the box." I seem to be a little deficient on both time and wits lately, so here's a look at something I did years ago. My young cousins wading into my Mother's backyard pond... before they had mortgages to pay and diapers to change. It is color pencil on matt board. I still love the sketchy feel of this one.

A Good Composition Never Dies Iris Painting
This painting and the two below it will be placed in an upscale boutique...more information when it actually happens. Paint must dry, frames must be acquired! Painting is always fun, but it's more fun when you know the painting will go into the real world and be seen by real people, live. (Yeah, I know I don't get out enough, whatever. :) The internet is wonderful and I'm very fortunate to live in an age where my paintings can and do sell online. However, brushwork/texture, scale and many intangible qualities original art has to offer are best experienced in life.

Do It Again, Di. Sunflower Painting
Did you know sunflowers represent loyalty? I will plant sunflowers in the backyard this year... I'm told they are very hardy.

Photo of me w/supersized paintings.
I was tagged by artist/blogger Kelley MacDonald. Thank you, Kelley! It's an honor to be chosen! By tagging me, she is saying she thinks my blog is fabulous. Kelley paints fruit, flowers and more. She has unique style of painting and always interesting observations to accompany the work--a worthwhile blog visit to be sure. Here's the rules: 1. Link to the person who tagged you 2. Post the rules in your blog 3. Write five random things about yourself 4. Tag random people at the end of your post, with links 5. Let each person know they've been tagged
Here's 5 random things about me: I was in an unpleasant funk when I received this award, it is greatly appreciated. When I was 15, I was pretty sure I'd be a glamorous horse trainer. If you saw me on Halloween, you'd be really scared. I think Oprah is super. I take too many pictures (shocker, right?)

Tropical Tulips: Suite of Two
Be sure to click image to see bigger.
These are much better viewed full (digital) size, please click image above. I love how they came out, but I know I can paint them better at a bigger size. Will have to find time to do that!

Daffy & Bud plus obscure rambling
You know how some days, the only thing you are good for is busy work? Like taking the newspapers out to the recycle bin, sweeping the kitchen floor and maybe re-arranging a few things and/or making a to-do list for future reference? I had a couple of those days... The good thing about busy work is coming back to what you should have been doing and realizing you can still do it.

More Rolling Sunflowers
Another set of rolling sunflowers... This time, I changed the stem color from emerald greens to more moss/designer neutral. I've said it before and I'll say it again: We do love the designers. ...and we love doing special projects for designers, yeppers. Yes Ma'am. These need a few finishing touches which I will do tomorrow morning.

Moonbeams & Daffodils
Moonbeams & Daffodils 6" x 6" Oil on Canvas Panel $95. SOLDClick image to see bigger.

I bought a bouquet of daffodils (for less than $2 at Trader Joes and don't even get me started on how much I do LOVE that store.) This flower conjures all manner of spring fever and it makes you wanna take your shoes off and run through a green field. That'll have to wait though, Cleveland's not done with winter just yet. It's in the low 40's and we may see some snow before the week ends.

Picture of Me with Paintings + a Daily Painting
Here's a picture of me looking sort of grumpy for which I do apologize, (: -- I'm holding two recent paintings, both of which were accepted into the "Artistic by Nature" juried exhibit at the Bay Arts Gallery in Bay Village, OH. I think judging for the show occurs this week, with the reception happening Friday! I'm delighted to be participating.Saturday, March 7, 2009

This week's Ebay offering.
This painting feels like an "oldie" to me, even though I painted it just four months ago... It's the first time I successfully painted a "grayed" down background and had it work. This painting is being offered here on Ebay with a low starting price and no reserve. Auction ends this Sunday.

Earthtone Tulips
I'm seem to be focussing on a few issues: more interesting edges, using less white for bright and (always) color, color, color. If this composition looks familiar, I painted it here. I wanted to try it again ...but this time with more "commercial" colors & bigger.
