Vintage Bisque Boy Figurine

Bisque Boy 7"x5" Oil on Canvas Panel $95
If interested, please email: diane@dianehoeptner.com
Hongnian Zhang's YIN/YANG concepts are still rattling around in my brain. I painted Bisque Boy lighter and brighter (Yang) and painted his eyes and mouth darker (Yin.) Nice!

Pinocchio Paintings: Brady Bunch Style

At last! 9 Pinocchio paintings arranged Brady Bunch (opening credits) style. I would have (re) photographed 'em again hanging on the same wall, but two of them went to the Pentagon gallery--and a few more sold. So, I decided to just go ahead and work with what I have...digital photos taken from before. I wanted to see them all together.

This was a fun project. I find myself scrutinizing how far I've come and gawking at how far I still wanna go. Painting the same thing over and over is a really good way to see repeating "issues." Old Pinocchio still has a thing or two to teach.

Carmine Bloom

Carmine Bloom (above) SOLD
8" x 8"
Oil on Canvas Panel $175

I still recall colors by what they were when I was using Prismacolor pencils. The canvas for the painting above was toned with cadmium red light, but in my addled brain it's called carmine. I suspect I WON'T retain the (once near and dear) 132 Prismacolor names much longer...there's only limited space in there, heheh.

I'm including another similar palette painting from AGES ago, it's watercolor and color pencil approx. 8x16 on Arches paper. It's still one of my favorites.

Cool Coco

Cool Coco 8" x 10" Oil on Canvas Panel $220.
If interested, please email: diane@dianehoeptner.com
Here's little Coco kitty again. I'm reading The Yin/Yang of Painting by Hongnian Zhang & Lois Woolley. Zhang is a brilliant painter and he and his wife Lois elegantly instruct on the use of opposites (values, colors, compositional elements) in painting. I meant to have this painting reflect the "yin yang" of purple and yellow. But it came out a little more "sea foam & poppy." (:

ARTSCAPE2008: MOCA Cleveland

I recently had the good fortune to sell a painting to events coordinator/professional arts promoter Heidi Lingg. Heidi is co-producing what is referred to as: "THE holiday shopping event in Cleveland," ARSCAPE2008 provides access to jewelry, art, fashion and hand crafted gift items from more than 50 regional artists. ...at the MOCA!!

Fabulous Heidi pulled some strings and helped me get some wall space at the (booked) show...It happens November 21st and 22nd. I'm totally psyched! If you're in the area, do stop by!

Crocker Park Pics

I spent the weekend exhibiting almost 40 small paintings at the Crocker Park Fine Art Fair. It was a lot of fun. The Michigan Art Guild awarded me a Best of Show blue ribbon for "emerging" artists! (: A happy surprise... and I sold a few paintings. My "models" were there too: Pinocchio, Pete the Dog and the wood duck pull toy. All were displayed on an old ironing board. What a wonderful event and the weather couldn't have been more perfect. Hoping to get back in the studio again soon.

I discovered the FAN brush today. It was perfect for blending the back of Pinocchio's head--where his airbrushed hair ends and his skin begins.

Daisy in Old Jar

Daisy in Old Jar 6" x 6" Oil on Canvas Panel SOLD
If interested, please email: diane@dianehoeptner.com
Sometimes it's best to start with a clean slate. While painting this daisy, I tried to micro manage the pink and yellow petals with a tiny brush. I struggled for quite a while before wiping that part back down to canvas. Applying generalized colors in simple shapes with a larger brush helped.
