Back in Time striped cat on art nouveau pattern

Back in Time  Oil on cradled wood  12" x 12"  NFS
Last week I took a hard look at the calendar and realized time was a flyin'.  I have some exhibit opportunities fast approaching and the biggest painting I've created this year measures just 6" x 8".  Not so good.  Good for blogging  ...but not so good for juried competitions and galleries.   So, here's my attempt at a large(r) painting.  I totally love it and I remember why painting bigger is so much fun and oh-so challenging.  More soon, hopefully.

  2. Just yesterday I was wondering what happened to your New Years resolution to paint larger. Glad to see you are doing it. I am working on a 24"x30" canvas right now. Love this cat painting. You may love still lifes and flowers but you capture the soul of animals. Wonderful work.

  4. Wonderful expression on this one. Isn't it great to go a little bigger? Love the pattern work you've been doing with these cat paintings.

  5. Love this one! These would be wonderful as a calendar.
Diane, do you use medium, and what kind of brushes? I am experimenting with some Stand oil instead of the Galkyd, and I sprung for one Sable brush that was on sale! Didn't realize how wonderful it would be! Do you use a softer brush to get that wonderful soft look? Thanks! Keep 'em coming!

  6. I love this! Something about it reminds me of Toulouse-Lautrec's work :) I agree with Elaine that these would make a GREAT calendar!!

  7. I think the juxtaposition between the flat patterned art nouveau background and the dimensional quality of the cat play out nicely. Very much reminds me of a Gustav Klimt painting. I love how you captured such a wistful expression on the cat's face. Very beautiful indeed, Diane! Bravo!
