A first for me: painting silver. It wasn't a walk in the park, but I'm still game to try again. Will re-photograph this painting after it dries. It's better in life!

Look Out painting 4 Steve Worthington project
Steve Worthington asked me to paint one of his delightful bronze mice for a book he's doing. The book will feature twenty different artist's mice paintings and proceeds from sales will be donated to animal shelters. I adopted my cat Coco from a shelter...so I'm happy to contribute. The list of artists participating is to DIE FOR! Carol Marine, Michael Naples & Jeff Hayes to name a few. I can't wait to see everyone else's paintings, more information on this project as it becomes available.

Daffodil Daze + ramblings on process
I usually follow a strict routine when painting. Rules like "work the whole thing" "dark to light" and "big shapes first" are very important to my process. But this morning I had a bit of a problem concentrating. I noodled too long on parts, swished around lots of paint that got wiped off later and generally didn't follow any of my good rules. I sort of lost hope in the middle and got back on track towards the end. This painting is the result. One positive aspect of "losing hope" for me anyway, is I'm more inclined to experiment and that's always a plus.

Narcissus SWEET floral still life by Hoeptner
This is a bouquet of Cream and White Narcissus discovered at the Westlake, OH Trader Joe's. LOVE that place! Heh, I wouldh've called 'em daffodils but what do I know? Apparently the Narcissus represents egotism, formality and the idea of "staying as sweet as you are."
Update: This painting won an Honorable Mention at the Trumbull Art Gallery's 46th Annual Juried Exhibit in 2010.

Magenta Blooms paint over for color harmony
I really liked this painting when I finished it. Then I lived with it for a while and realized the dingy yellow background and brown purple in the table top were working against it... Don't know what I was thinking with those colors... The re-paint took less than an hour (!) --and now the magenta tulips pop and I feel it has more color harmony. (Click image to see bigger.)

Busy Work preparing for art show
My husband says I'm a "busy bee" lately and it's true. I've been preparing paintings for my show at Local Girl Gallery in Lakewood, OH (April 12 - May 16) ...attaching wires on backs, painting sides, making piles for touch ups and labels. It's nice to switch gears for a change, this sort of busy work is easy and I'm getting quite a nice sense of accomplishment. If you would like a postcard invitation to the show, please email me your address!

Sideway Sprawl red ranunculus painting
I'm definitely in my comfort zone when painting 8x8's and 8x10's... There's probably something good to be said about that, but I hope over time to keep stepping up the size and complexity of my paintings.

Old Fashioned Floral

I love how this came out! Look for more crimson Ranunculus paintings in the next few days. Also making an experimental appearance soon: Buy-it-now (Paypal) buttons on this blog... Is that horrible? I enjoy having this blog so much and over the last year my traffic has grown exponentially. It's a drag to send folks off site to Ebay and/or Etsy to make a purchase. The plan is to add the buttons as I find time. But as always, if you see a painting you want, email me right away. It doesn't have to have a button. I enjoy selling my work directly to readers of this blog and welcome the opportunity to do so.

Fall's Flowers I sunflower oil painting
Fall's Flowers Oil on board 8" x 8" Click image to see bigger.
I didn't make it over to Trader Joe's for fresh flowers until late this afternoon... Found the most beautiful peonies. Well, peonies or red ranunculus (?) I'm not sure. Maybe someone can help me identify them later. Meanwhile, here's some tried and true sunflowers, the companion painting for this will be posted tomorrow!

Yes, it's the duck pulltoy again. I keep coming back to the little rascals for more punishment painting adventures! Hoping to pick up some sort of white or beige flowers at Trader Joe's tonight.
