The first time I painted these white flowers was here. They have propeller like petals and look as if they might fly away at any moment.

Carmine Triangle daisy painting by Hoeptner

Sometimes a good painting feels like a fluke. ...or a lucky miracle fallen from the sky. When that happens, I always want to try it again. Change it, switch out some colors and prove it's not just lucky... (dangit?!) Doing variations on a painting takes "precious" and "happenstance" out of the equation. To see a most outstanding example of variations, check out artist Marla Baggetta's one hundred (!!) variations on a landscape, here.

I just can't get a good photo of this painting! It's too wet, too big and I need one of those fancy photo tent thingys bad. How's that for excuses? This will have to suffice for now. Pantone has declared that turquoise is the hot color for 2010. I painted this composition before here.... this time around it's bigger and in honor of Pantone's choice I changed the pretty pottery vase from ultramarine to turquoise with a teal background, LOVE it!! Will re-photograph under better conditions later.

My apologies to those of you who followed a link from Daily Painters. I pulled today's painting and replaced it with this one. (: This one is better. It'll be the last of my (somewhat untimely) exploration of Christmas florals.

It feels good to do some loose paint sketches on paper. If this looks vaguely "Christmas" that's because it is... a few more to follow this week.

16x20 Daisy Painting in Progress
Will re-work this after it's had a minute to dry. Every time I sat down to paint, something else needed my attention. (Ha, not complaining!) If it was smaller I might throw it on the burn pile, but at 16x20, wasting the materials and time it took to get this far is unthinkable. It's still salvage-able! Will come back around to it after a little break.

News about Diane Hoeptner Art Goings On

In my heart of hearts, my ultimate dream is to have one or three shows a year, each becoming "sold out." I don't even care where the shows take place, as long as the work is appreciated and purchased.
This dream isn't a requirement for happiness, but it does provide a sort of agenda around which I plan my painting time.
I am so pleased to announce my participation in a two person exhibit at the most awesome Local Girl Gallery in Lakewood, OH. My fellow exhibitor will be Mike Guyot (guy-it) who does brilliant architectural paintings. See his graphic designs and a selection of his paintings on his website, here. The opening is April 10th between 6 and 9pm. The exhibit runs just past Mother's Day until May 16th. Lately I've been making an effort to "change up" my floral still lifes in size and with the addition of toys and cats... This blog is the first place to see my new paintings, but the show at LGG will be a perfect opportunity to buy one! I'm sure I'll blab about it more as the date approaches.
In other news, a greeting card company purchased the rights on several paintings for use on cards! Four of the paintings chosen hang in my dear collector's homes... If your painting was chosen, I'll be sure to let you know next week sometime.
Yes, today is news day. I've been sitting on the following news forEVER. But here you go: Target will be test marketing one or more of my poppy paintings as posters or canvas prints this year sometime... I don't know when and I don't even know exactly which paintings. This much anticipated event has been a loooong time in the making. Suffice it to say my poster publisher, Editions Limited put the deal together and I will share more when it actually happens.
But wait, there's more! No, not really. That's all the news on this end. (:
