Magenta Blooms paint over for color harmony

I really liked this painting when I finished it. Then I lived with it for a while and realized the dingy yellow background and brown purple in the table top were working against it... Don't know what I was thinking with those colors... The re-paint took less than an hour (!) --and now the magenta tulips pop and I feel it has more color harmony. (Click image to see bigger.)

  1. What a difference! It really pulls all the colors together and the tulips and lemons shine. Beautiful!

  2. I agree with you, the purrple and yellow background really darkened it up. Now everything pops up! great job!

  3. I agree with everyone else. Isn't it amazing how a different color palette cn affect the scene? Looks more "hip". Went to the Museum yesterday, and amazed how dark some of the older paintings were. Maybe they needed to be cleaned?

  4. I like them both but agree, the blue background painting is very fresh. Lovely colors.

  5. I didn't realize it was the same painting until I read. Thought you painted it twice. Wow! Everything came to life with new colors. Just shows how important that background color choice is.

  6. I thought the same as Gwen, that you painted them twice. Gotta say, that's not a bad idea for the next time. I think both color schemes would sell well. Great job.
