Face Painting

My dear Nephew and his cousin had a 6th birthday party this afternoon. ...and my sister asked me to do face painting. It was TOO much fun! Yes, for a cranky childless old broad like myself it was just what the doctor ordered. I made a color print out of samples (found online) and each child got to pick. The boys wanted to be Spiderman and Hulk, most of the girls went for "butterfly eyes." I think fun was had by all, but especially me. Happy Birthday Nathan & Christopher!! nodp

I've ordered some pre-made cradled wood panels. I'm hoping they will replace my labor intensive home made panels thus saving me many hours of cutting & assembly time. Since painting my best-to-date painting (Perfect Storm, see two entries below)--I now know I prefer painting on panel to canvas or paper... Of course, I'm always happy to make exceptions.

I've been wanting to capture the perfect yellow on the perfect gray. There's something so fresh about this color combination... The first time I recognized it in my work was in August, here. Ever since then, I've been trying to do THIS painting. This painting is exactly what I wanted to say with yellow and gray and that is very satisfying.

Geranium Painting

The geraniums on our front porch are nothing short of glorious. Hard to believe they endure so much cold?! It's gotten down to the 40's and they keep blooming. I'm pretty sure they need to be clipped all the way back and stored inside for the winter, I should probably do that.

Pancakes are Good.

I'm told by Linda Goik of the Local Girl Gallery that a certain pancake house on the Eastside of Cleveland is a sleeper hotspot for art sales. Hey, stranger things have happened! She will be installing fifteen of my recent paintings there this weekend and I'm totally psyched! "Framing" the larger paintings on paper turned out to be easier than I had expected... I sandwiched them between custom cut plexi and foam board, using Moore brand "gallery clips" and string on back. This is a great way to display lightweight larger works-- and allows for easy dis-assembly and custom framing later if desired. nodp

I bought a bundle of neon colored felt swatches last summer for $1. at a garage sale. Wasn't sure the pink piece would work with this arrangement... but it seems to balance out areas of saturated color nicely.
