It's on Ebay!
A little while back I decided to quit exhibiting paintings unless the paintings are a) framed or b) on gallery wrapped canvas.
I also upgraded my daily paintings to a standard size: 8" x 8"--Painting at that size allows me (or my buyer) to find decent ready made frames more easily. I love presenting a complete "product" ready to hang or frame to taste.
Anyway, long story short, I still have a few little unframed 6x6 paintings looking for homes. Since I won't be exhibiting them in life -- I will throw them up for auction on Ebay. This one is called Daffy & Bud and it's one of my personal favorites. The auction ends Sunday night, so don't miss your chance to bid!

It was dreadfully humid today. I'm afraid this will be it for pictures on these, two 22x22 sunflower paintings. I have painted them before in smaller sizes, but never as a designated set. I'm happy with how they turned out... Once the weather is more hospitable and I'm feeling less like a slug, I will re-photograph them.

5700 Broadway NHS Cleveland Art Exhibit

It's SO satisfying to see my art hanging in public, I never get over that thrill. This is the 5700 Gallery located in the Neighborhood Housing Services of Slavic Village/Cleveland, OH. Bridget Ginley, Cleveland Curator/Artist/WRUW Case Western Reserve University DJ (all around cool chick) discovered my art through Twitter and asked me to put together a show. These paintings were made around 2005, so they are a combination of watercolor and color pencil. I still LOVE my "Children at Play" series and if I wasn't enjoying painting flowers so much, I'd paint children again. Tuesday, July 21, 2009
Sunflower Looks Up
It hailed in Cleveland, OH today! It was very exciting. This painting is a bit bigger than what I normally attempt to do in a day... The photo is very glare-ey, I will take another picture after it dries... It's better in life.

Muted Melody White Flower Painting
This painting began with some "outlines" and "accents" in dioxazine purple mixed with some white... I thought I'd have some clever peek throughs with it, but wow the dioxazine purple is strong and it tinted everything that went after it!! I spent the better part of an hour fighting it back with a warm ochre neutral... You can still see a generally purple/lavender influence there in the background. Not unhappy with it, it's just not exactly what I intended.

Cup on Green 8"x 8" Oil on Board N/AClick image to see bigger.
Well, it's been a busy couple of days. My awesome Cleveland dealer found me wall space at the 78th St. Studios show, last minute yesterday! I assembled quite a few paintings into frames on hand and printed out labels for all in just a couple hours. The event takes place in a really neat OLD industrial building that's been converted to lofts and live-in/work and gallery spaces. It's all huge service elevators, sliding steel doors and exposed beams! Today is the last day, may try to post pictures later!

Thursday's Blooms bright orange and yellow tulip

I'm making an effort to exhibit only paintings that are framed. Yes, it's the tulips again! I never get sick of painting these. They are still wet, but I already acquired frames for them... I couldn't wait to see what they would look like in the frames so I photo-shopped these. (Update: These paintings look better side by side (1) and (2) they are oil on cradled board and they are NOT framed.)

Cry me a Petal
Fellow Art Bloggers: Does the obligation to say something interesting interfere with your blogging pleasure? I find myself laboring over certain entries. Rules do apply: No art-speak, no bad mouthing my own work, if I'm really happy with a painting I try not to use the word "love" more than three times, heh, and no writing about projects before they actually happen. Furthermore, it seems like the most interesting thing that happens to me some days is my studio time. ...and how many times can you rave about that? Ideally, my paintings would speak for themselves: "I'm incredibly exciting" "I sneak up on you" and "I have eye popping qualities." On a related note: I love, love, love this painting.

Second Cousin Sunflower Painting
This pottery vase is more spectacular than how I painted it. There's drippy bright sienna brown paint around the top... and neat black spots on top of the matte finish brown glaze. Details you miss if you squint... Yes, a little more detailing than I could manage on this fine Monday.

Paint 'em again, Di. Yellow & Red Poppies I & II
Someone-in-the-know told me the first set of square poppies (see a few entries below) had two much distracting dark green stuff/stems at the bottom... This time around I replaced the greens with lighter less offensive colors and wowee, yeppers she surely was right! I LOVE these!!! I may have to do more. Each of these paintings measures 12" x 12" and they are oil on cradled board. Maybe today, finally will photograph the sunflowers.

Starry Daffodil
I painted this same daffodil in March of this year, here. I like 'em both, but this one has a more subtle quality in colors and edges than the first... In related news, it was a rainy and overcast day in Cleveland today. So much so, that I postponed photographing my beautiful sunflowers 'til tomorrow.
