I've been wanting to capture the perfect yellow on the perfect gray. There's something so fresh about this color combination... The first time I recognized it in my work was in August, here. Ever since then, I've been trying to do THIS painting. This painting is exactly what I wanted to say with yellow and gray and that is very satisfying.

  1. Yes, this is perfectly beautiful. The yellow springs off the gray.

And the previous two of white flowers in aqua glass!! ~Really~ Nice!

  2. Diane,

Just went through your blog. Very exciting.
The perfect storm and rolling red sunflowers
are especially nice. I like the graphic appeal
of the sunflowers. The close ups create such
    interesting negative shapes.

Nice blog and great to find a new artist to visit.

  4. Lovely - love the perspective and the bottom of the jar cropped in - the colors are phenomenal - a beautiful shade of gray combined w/the yellow is truly appealing.

  7. I thought I saw/read somewhere that the yellow/gray combo is retro and coming back in style like gangbusters with interior decorators now. Great instincts Diane! I think it's just plain gorgeous no matter what era we're talking about.

  12. The flowers are captured perfectly in that lovely sunny yellow, love the brush strokes and the unexpected diversity of flowers unified by colour. Grey background really intensifies the yellow.
