Because posting something is more fun than NOT, here's a glare-y photo of a work in progress. Pete the dog again-- I wasn't able to pull off the whole painting in one sitting as hoped. He's a little gimpy in the hand, will re-work it and finish after the paint dries. (:

Crocker Park Fall Fest & Fine Art Fair OHIO

I've been juried into the Crocker Park Fall Fest & Fine Art Fair.
55 square feet of wall space has been allotted to me! 35 of my daily paintings are earmarked for this show. I've been tweaking some so they have time to dry. Heh, "tweaking" is a slippery slope. A few little edits can quickly turn into a total re-paint. I want to be careful to not have that happen.

Orange Yellow Red Sunflower Trio
I'm so glad when I started painting, I didn't start OFF painting big. Making daily time for small paintings has helped me get "warmed up" and accustomed to starting and finishing without a lot of drama. Here's three big (FOR ME) paintings. They are larger versions of the Sunflower Trio paintings I posted earlier. The first three had various blue backgrounds, which I ended up painting over--but I liked the blue peeking through. The larger versions have streaks of prussian blue that please me greatly.

Pete the Dog Old Wood Toy
If interested, please email: diane@dianehoeptner.com
After working on a much larger (more stress inducing) painting all morning, this one practically painted itself. Things I like and want to repeat: Letting the under painting show through (bright pink in this case) & not overblending.
On a side note: I won Pete the Dog Doll at an estate auction. The guy bidding against me was a professional toy collector/dealer... I'm normally pretty "thrifty," (belligerently cheap, whatever) but thought I could make some good paintings of him. So, I bid higher and paid way more than I shoudh've... He's just an old wood doll after all, not a car payment! Anyway, I feel better now... And will paint Pete again.

Serendipity
I spent my 20's & 30's in Southern California. Then I moved "back home" to Ohio. For a while, I've been in the process of "taking back" stuff my Mother was kind enough to store in her barn. It's a lot of stuff... old paintings, books, some furniture & old schoolwork. The (real) leaf to your left was part of a book report I did in ninth grade, entitled: "Trees That Grow in NE Ohio." It's one leaf among over a dozen included in my fabulous (B+!) report. Not to toot my own horn, but I was METICULOUS about finding the most spectacular leaves and flattening them to absolute perfection. I'm throwing most of my old stuff out, this report with the leaves, I kept.
So fast forward to yesterday. I'm doing pottery design for a company in California. I submit a bunch of designs with earthy warm colors and ROSES. The art director replies, she loves the colors, but could I please replace the roses with a LEAVES?? Hello??! We are leaves unlimited. Oh, such perfect timing, serendipity like THAT almost never happens to me.
On a side note, I'm gonna paint another SUNFLOWER trio for a gallery in Florida. Big, 18"x18" or bigger. I'm very excited about it, but I may not post again for a little while.

Flower Bird II Making Progress
If interested, please email: diane@dianehoeptner.com
Here's the second. Maybe the first will make more sense now. I will fine tune these more later, after the paint on both dries. LOVE the parrot tulips!

Flower Bird I Still in Progress
If interested, please email: diane@dianehoeptner.com
This painting has ISSUES and I'm aware of 'em.... I am pleasantly surprised by how appealing the muddy greens/grays and pure cadmium red lights are... Since there's a companion piece still to be painted, I will go ahead with that and then start solving everything (on both) when the "bulk" of each is painted.

Blue Ducky
I'm enjoying working on 5x7 panels as opposed to the 6x6's... A lot of the compositions I want to do won't work in a square format... Plus they're super easy to find frames for!! May do a few more in this size.

Yellow Ducky
For purchase information: diane@dianehoeptner.com
This little wood duck is part of an old pull toy. He's the only one who still has his googly eyes--which are browned and scratched from age. Yep, I'm painting the duck pull toy again. And there will be more after this one! I just realized the red wheel is a little lopsided ...and will probably go back in and touch that up later. The more I paint this old pull toy, the easier it is to achieve that sort of heavy paint/loose brushwork that I so love and aspire to do EVERY time.
